27 km to go

27 km to go, originally uploaded by SBM.

To drive in this country, the chief qualification seems to be that you know exactly how to get from Point A to Point B before you start. Road signage outside of Baghdad - at least up in Kurdistan - is minimal at best. One wrong turn in this part and you might end up at the Iranian border. MC, in an attempt to alleviate the potential for such a disaster, has put up a few signs that may or may not actually help anyone. This sign is on the road from Kalar to Khanaqin, where there are about three intersections with the option to either go right or left. In lieu of any additional information, I've simply learned that you always turn left on the way to Kalar and always turn right on the way to Khanaqin - simple!
